We currently offer a whopping 16 flavors. Here is a brief description of them listed in order of popularity.

Original
The one that started it all from a family recipe back in 1976. This flavor features the powerful taste and smell of real hickory smoke, coupled beautifully with a careful blend of lemon pepper and other spices. It is a delicious combination that keeps people coming back for more..and more....and more. Also available in a version with 40% less sodium.

Black Pepper & Garlic
Created with 7 choice ingredients, this sweet and a little bit tangy jerky is pack with the robust flavor of garlic and black pepper. It has an even blend of salty, sweet, and tangy elements that bring on a harmony you never could have imagined. Fiery version available.*

Teriyaki
Sweet, tangy, and packed full of flavor, what else could you want from a Teriyaki jerky? The mild hickory smoke brings out the best teriyaki seasoning has to offer. Made with a carefully hand-mixed seasoning, this jerky will have an explosion of flavor in every bite. Fiery version available.*

BBQ
Kick back and relax with our BBQ jerky. Each bite is full of flavor and your taste buds will enjoy the sweet and savory blend of seasoning with that just off the grill smokiness. It’s a unique flavor profile that will leave you wanting more. Fiery version available.*

Fiery Hot
Just like our Original jerky, Fiery Hot is a tribute to lemon pepper and natural hickory smoke. It has a heaping dose of cayenne pepper which makes it much hotter than the Original with a more complex flavor profile. Also available in a version with 40% less sodium.

Sriracha
Look no further for a satisfying, spicy snack. A chili pepper and spicy seasoned blend, this sriracha jerky has a familiar taste to it like a welcome home. It’s full of flavor and its balance of spice and salt is completely satisfying on all levels.

Old Bay
A new flavor of ours and yet such a timeless classic that spotlights the Old Bay seasoning. Take a handful of this salty perfection and get it in your belly now! It’s like a stroll down the boardwalk but better because it’s edible.

Mango Jalapeno
Sweet, tangy, and a touch of heat, makes this treat an absolute steal. With real mango flavoring and a toss of jalapeno, this jerky has a sense of tropical calm in every bite. One of our sweetest flavors.

Ghost Pepper
If you can’t stand the heat, get out of the smoke house! Made with one of the hottest peppers known to humankind, our Ghost Pepper jerky is the hottest we have and is nothing to sneeze at. Packed full of spicy goodness and flavor, this jerky leaves all others in the dust.

Korean BBQ
One of our newest flavors, this is a humble and down to earth type of jerky that mirrors the classic Korean BBQ seasonings. It features a unique taste of sesame seeds, garlic and soy sauce and satisfies your salty cravings. A fiery version is also available.* Contains Soy and Wheat.

*Fiery versions are made the same as the standard version but with the addition of a healthy amount of cayenne pepper.

Why is my order status "pending"?
"pending" just means that it has not been shipped yet.

Why is most beef jerky so expensive?
The main reason is that all jerky is costly to make. Beef is about 60% water, so when it is dried most of the weight is evaporated. It takes about 2.5 Lbs of quality beef to make 1 Lb of jerky. Secondly, many jerky companies use expensive chemicals and preservatives when making their jerky, and they have a lot of waste just based on how they make it. We use minimal preservatives, especially in our Original and Fiery Hot flavors, and have a unique process is much more efficient and reduces waste considerably. This saves you money. Finally, ordering directly from us "cuts out the middleman" and allows us to pass the savings directly to you.

How is Big John's Beef jerky different from other brands?
Our jerky is made using a totally different and unique process (patent pending) than all other jerky on the market today. For one, it is smoked with real hickory wood chips for over 14 hours, unlike other brands which use artificial smoke flavoring and/or smoke it for just a few hours or less.

What is the difference between Strips and Steak Fries
Our Strips are the way we have been making jerky for years and is preferred by most of our customers. Steak Fries are a much thicker cut of jerky and is enjoyed by those who like big, thick pieces of jerky. In fact, they are called Steak Fries because they are about the size and shape of a steak fry.

How long will my jerky stay fresh?
We guarantee unopened bags will remain fresh until at least the "Sell By" date. Once a bag is opened it should be eaten or frozen within 7 days.

What's the best way to store it?
Store your jerky in a cool dry place avoiding direct sunlight. Once a bag is opened, remove as much air as possible and close the bag. It can also be stored in the freezer. Make sure you allow it to get to room temperature before eating because IMHO jerky Popsicles aren't very tasty! Avoid the refrigerator because changes in temperatures can cause condensation in the bag and lead to a shortened shelf life.

Is jerky safe from bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), aka Mad Cow Disease?
Beef jerky is perfectly safe from bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE), aka Mad Cow Disease — and has nothing to do with how the beef has been preserved. Additionally, it's not possible to contract Mad Cow disease from whole muscle jerky — BSE is found in the brain and spinal cords of infected cows.

Mad Cow disease is a result of protein mutations that result in neuromuscular degeneration. Although there is a human form of this disorder as well (Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease), the only way a human can contract the illness from cows is from consuming the flesh of an infected cow. The chances of this are negligible at this point in time because the USDA (as well as the equivalent agencies of other nations) increased random testing of cows and tightened restrictions of the use of high-risk animals in the production of anything that would reach the mouths of humans or our pets (cow carcasses were used heavily in the production of pet food in the past, as well as in the production of feed for other animals).

According to the USDA, as a result of changes in their testing and preventative measures, the number of cows that tested positive for Mad Cow fell 99% from 1992 to 2011. In 2011 there were a mere 29 Mad Cow-positive cases in the US — and USDA testing showed these had nothing to do with eating infected animal feed, further suggesting the risk to humans has been all but eliminated.

How long does shipping take?
We make our jerky fresh daily and in many cases it is shipped the same day it is packaged. Please allow 1-2 business days for your order to be shipped, and an extra day or so around the Holidays. Transit time is generally 1-3 business days for US customers and 6-10 business days for Canadian/US Military customers. Contact Us if you have any questions or concerns.

Can I track my order?
You can track most orders. Tracking is not available for US and Military orders under 1 Lb and Canadian orders under 4 Lbs.

What happens if I don't like it?
We doubt that will happen. If it does happen, though, don't eat it. We will gladly replace it or refund your money. However, we generally do not give refunds after you have already eaten it.

Where do you buy your beef?
We purchase our beef from a local distributor, who gets it from major meat processors in and around Pennsylvania.

Where is it made and packaged?
Right here in the USA! All of our jerky is hand made and packaged by hand in our USDA-inspected facility in York. PA.
